Konami’s platform legacy comes in the form of Castlevania.  An epic series, it has spanned at least five formats thus far and does not look like slowing down.  After the original Nintendo series, Castlevania fans were looking for something special from the SNES outing and they got it.

Utilising the SNES’ Mode 7 capacity and sound chips to the limit, Konami got the most out of the machine.  Enemies leapt from the shadows, lightning crackled and whips cracked.  The bosses really made this game though, huge looming monstrosities pulled straight from a programmer’s worst nightmare.

Challenging horror-platform gaming at its finest.
